Buunni + Waste Not: composting with intention

This Earth Day, Buunni is excited to highlight our partnership with Waste Not.

Since August 2024, Buunni Coffee and Waste Not have partnered to divert an estimated over 8,500 pounds of coffee grounds and chaff from landfills.

By choosing local, low-emission collection and regenerative composting, Buunni has helped prevent more than 3.47 metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions from entering the atmosphere — the equivalent of the carbon sequestered by over 4 acres of U.S. forests in a year!

This impact includes both the 1.48 metric tons avoided through composting, and an additional 1.99 metric tons saved by replacing diesel truck pickups with Waste Not’s electric bike and cargo trailer system.

It’s a powerful example of how community-based sustainability can drive meaningful environmental progress — one cup, one tote, and one mile at a time.

Waste Not was founded by Jay Bolden, a Master Composter whose journey began in a community college classroom and took shape with support from the Citizens Committee for NYC. Today, Waste Not leads with low-emission collection, education, and composting services — proving that local action can transform waste into something meaningful.

Other Ways Buunni ❤️ the 🌎

Buunni sources coffees from small holder farms and farmers’ cooperatives that prioritize natural and organic practices such as composting, shade growing, agroforestry and biodynamic agriculture.
